As of Wednesday, March 25th, Haiti confirmed seven cases of COVID-19. We will continue to closely monitor the spread of COVID-19 and keep everyone updated with the most accurate information we have. Our organization has already began to take proactive steps and necessary actions to protect the health and wellbeing of those we serve. Partial closure of the Petite Rivière Health Clinic for two days to educate staff and prepare for the spread of COVID-19, including a thorough cleaning of the facility Staff Education Sessions to inform staff on COVID-19 and how to protect themselves and the patientsEstablished daily conference calls with staff and our Board for education and problem solving Pre-purchased supplies to ensure that our staff have proper PPE (personal protective equipment) including N95 masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and eye protection Relocated our waiting room from inside the clinic to outside to prevent nosocomial transmissionSet up phone triage screening system for patients All patients contacted by phone with medical histories taken by phone In-person contact limited to essential or life-sustaining services Patients with chronic medical conditions provided with two-month medication supplies to minimize visits Instituted a public health campaign promoting handwashing and social distancing using community outreach workers and recorded messages played from sound trucks throughout the community Paid clinic staff for the next two months in advance in case they need additional funds or the banks close May 20, 20 update Instituted universal masking and hand washing on arrival for all patients. Built a new public toilet at the clinic and hand washing station. Distributed soap and cleaning supplies in the community. Education and encouragement around physical distancing and mask wearing with planned campaign to hire community members to make masks for distribution.
